| In many cases, the absence of precise records in
post-conflict environments makes it virtually impossible to accurately
determine the extent of an ERW problem, or to pinpoint the exact
locations of Unexploded Ordnance and other types of munitions.
Historical and archival information can sometimes be obtained from a
variety of sources, but it is always difficult to be confident as to the
accuracy and completeness of the situation being portrayed, and there
will therefore always be a small residual risk from ERW after
clearance. Nevertheless there will usually be enough information to
gain a general understanding of the potential ERW contamination that
exists in a specific area.
Qualissol provide this service to allow their Clients to
gather, evaluate, and analyse all available information on the status of
ERW contamination and associated risk within their area of interest.
Qualissol conduct ERW General Assessment activities with information
provided from a wide range of sources, including real time data provided
by ERW Clearance Contractors conducting ongoing operations.
This is a continually evolving process whereby initial subjective
information is used by Qualissol to plan the collection of data
through objective and scientifically repeatable methods in order to
develop and implement strategies to reduce the risk to their Client's
employees, resources, and construction schedules.
Based on the information provided by the General Assessment at the
time of the assignment, Qualissol will allocate ERW Risk Levels
to individual areas. All Risk Levels will be constantly reviewed and if
deemed appropriate, increased or decreased to reflect the increased
objectivity of new information as it becomes available. In this way
Qualissol matures the General Assessment across the full extent of
their Client's construction footprint.
The Risk Level allocated to a specific piece of land will indicate to
our Clients (and the ERW Clearance Contractor) whether full ERW
clearance is required, or if other methods can be used, such as
Representative Sampling. This provides an immediate and significant
financial saving to our Clients, as well as ensures that construction
delays caused by ERW activities are eliminated or minimised.

when implemented will provide a level of confidence in excess of
99.5% that land handed over for construction is clear of ERW
- Increased stakeholder, employee, subcontractor, and local
community confidence in construction activities
- Confidence that risk from an ERW incident has been reduced to
